IDD, Facsimile, Telegram and Internet are all available. Phone booths are located in Jamestown and the country districts. Collect calls are possible to South Africa, USA, Canada, United Kingdom and Ascension Island. Credit calls (AT&T cards only) are possible to USA, Canada & United Kingdom. All districts have a sub-Post Office operating in a general store or grocery shop. Postage stamps are available from the main Post Office, sub-Post Offices and the Souvenir Shop, Main Street, Jamestown. Overseas post is operated via the RMS St Helena. The Post Office will receive mail for you, providing it is addressed Poste Restante. It should be collected from the main Post Office in Jamestown .
Jamestown has a General
Hospital, a Dental Surgery and a Community Clinic. All visits are by
appointment only (Tel. 2500) except in emergency. United Kingdom residents
with British Passports are eligible to pay local rates for medical and
dental attention. Non UK residents pay higher rates.
1 Saint Helenian pound (£S) = 100 pence - Coins in use have values of 1p, 2p, 10p, 20p, 50p, and £1. Notes in circulation have values of £5, £10 and £20. One St Helena £ is equal to one British £ Sterling. No international banks.
Traveller's cheques are recommended and can be cashed at the Cash Office, The Castle.
