Welcome to the unspoilt peace of our tropical island home. Small yet beautiful, it is an island of contrasts, with a rich and fascinating heritage evident in the military fortifications set in spectacular scenery.

One of the remotest islands in the South Atlantic, St Helena was once described as an emerald set in bronze - its bright green hillsides, soft verdant pastures and lush vegetation -filled valleys surrounded by magnificent 1,000 feet high cliffs of  brown iron-rich volcanic rock, carved over the centuries by the pounding Atlantic rollers.

St Helena is blessed with a pleasant climate with warm, sunny summers and cool, mild winters, with moderate rains. Whatever time of year you visit us, you are promised a memorable experience.

The Portuguese admiral Joćo da Nova discovered the island on 2lst May 1502 (the anniversary of St Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine) while on a return voyage from India. So, we are already making plans for two very important milestones : not just the millennium but also, in 2002, the 500th anniversary of St Helena’s discovery.

We are proud of our rich and diverse heritage, with ancestors from Africa, the East and Europe. We believe this unique combination has contributed to the "Saint's" unique, captivating and, above all, friendly character. When you leave our shores we know that you will take with you fond memories of your visit to our beautiful island.

Enjoy your stay.
